Description

What is Self-Care Boarding

Self-care horse boarding is a boarding arrangement where you the horse owner are responsible for the daily care and maintenance of your horse while he/she is housed at our boarding facility. This option allows you to have more control over your horse’s care and can be a very cost-effective option.

Key Features

Responsibilities of the Owner

  • Daily Care: You must provide all hay/feed for your horse as appropriate, and clean his/her stall.
  • Supplies: You are responsible for purchasing and maintaining your horse’s hay/feed, bedding, and all other needs.
  • Health Management: You are responsible for handing your horse’s veterinary, medication, and farrier needs.

Responsibilities of Bragg Homestead

  • Daily Turn-Out: We will turn out your horse to pasture each day for exercise and grazing.
  • Water: We will provide constant access to fresh, clean water for your horse.

Benefits

  • Cost Savings: Self-care boarding is generally cheaper than other care options since we do not provide you horse’s daily care needs.
  • Hands-On Experience: You can spend more time with your horse, fostering a strong bond.
  • Control Over Care: You get to choose the specific feeds and care routines that best meet your horse’s needs.
  • Webcam/Online Observation: We will provide you access to our online webcams so you may monitor and observe your horse at your convenience.

Considerations

  • Time Commitment: You will need to visit the barn at least once-per-day (at time, perhaps multiple times per day) to perform necessary tasks, which can be time-consuming.
  • Facility Amenities: Self-care provides a stall, turn-out to pasture, and access to a riding arena.

Contracts and Regulations

  • Horse owners will sign a contract for a defined period of time, outlining their responsibilities, costs, and our facility rules before boarding their horse.
  • While there are rules to follow and needs to meet, self-care boarding is ideal for those who want a more involved role in their horse’s care while also benefiting from the facilities provided by a boarding establishment.
