Jenn’s 2×2’s

by

So this recipe is something Sara picked up from one of her college roommates a few decades (or more!) ago, and it was always a big hit at get-togethers and when folks would show up for dinner. It’s a quick and easy dessert that everyone seems to love (unless they’ve got a nut allergy or hate chocolate, of course).

Since this index card is kind of old and hard to read, and because Sara’s handwriting is just a smidge better than what your doctor writes on your prescriptions (do they even still handwrite prescriptions?), here are the typed directions. Oh, and instead of using chocolate frosting like the recipe says, Sara sprinkles chocolate chips all over this thing until they melt and then spreads the hot melty chocolate goop all over the top of the whole thing. Trust me, it’s a sinfully delicious treat!

  • 2 cups Quick Oats
  • 2 cubes Margarine
  • 2 cups Brown Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 cups Flour

Starting to see why these things are called “2×2’s”?

Mix all those ingredients together and then spread onto a rimmed baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 22 minutes. (Gah! More 2’s!)

Right when you pull this out of the oven, spread peanut butter over the whole thing while it’s still hot, then sprinkle chocolate chips over the top of the peanut butter until they’re melty enough to spread with an offset spatula. Cut into (you guessed it!) 2-inch squares while still hot. Serve and enjoy!
